Carrie and I attended the Maroons in Bloom event last night at Short Hills CC in East Moline. The event is the annual fundraiser for the Moline Public Schools Foundation. It was a great time for an obvious good cause. Plus Sculpin IPA was on tap which makes any gathering that much better. Got to hang out with our friends Amy and Andrew and met a few other new people as well.
Fundraising and overall charity work seems to be a missed element for most millennials and young families. I realize having kids and both parents working seems to leave very little time to help others, but there just seems to be a lack of interest in getting involved to get nothing out of it. That ‘nothing’ is actually a lot something but it usually isn’t material, which is hard concept for a lot of people these days. I still remember when my dad told us when we were younger that we were staying overnight at the homeless shelter in Marshalltown, IA – I don’t think I slept that night but those dudes that needed a bed sure did. I’ll never forget that.
Good schools take commitment, money, and action. Elyse will be a Maroon at some point in the future and I guess Carrie and I just want to make sure we can help out however we can.
What a rainy few days and for the rest of the weekend here. I’ve hit the driving range a few times this year but man I miss golf. Kids and moving will do that to you.
